Romoos is «Best Tourism Village by UN Tourism» 2024

The World Tourism Organisation UN Tourism (formerly UNWTO) has been looking for the best tourism villages in the world for the fourth time as part of its ‘Best Tourism Villages’ initiative. As a member state of UN Tourism, Switzerland was once again able to send candidates into the race. Two Swiss villages, Romoos LU and Splügen GR, have now been honoured with this major international recognition.

Tourism villages with traditional activities such as agriculture and forestry, which also use tourism as a means of promoting and preserving their cultural heritage and which are committed to sustainable tourism development, were eligible to apply. Romoos and Splügen impressed the UN Tourism jury with their strong focus on sustainable development, their picturesque village centres and various initiatives to preserve, promote and valorise their cultural heritage for tourism.
