There is no question that Mozart's Requiem is one of the most sublime works of European sacred music - in cathedrals as well as in the concert hall. This music is immediately moving and finds its way into the hearts of the audience. Although not all of it was composed by Mozart himself, as he died while it was still being written. Nevertheless, we perceive the work as an organically grown whole. What if Mozart had been able to complete the Requiem himself? The Luzerner Sinfonieorchester also asked the Turkish pianist and composer Fazil Say this question: How does he react to Mozart's Requiem? With a very personal answer - more precisely, with his own composition: "Mozart ve Mevlana". He speaks of metamorphoses on themes from Mozart's Requiem with Requiem texts in Turkish and mentions Mevlana Rumi, a Persian-Turkish mystic, scholar and poet of the 13th century, whose Sufi texts once made the rounds worldwide. Mozart reflected in ancient Turkish Sufi philosophy: a musical reconciliation between Orient and Occident.
