This snowshoe hike combines a hidden gondola station, great views, good food and a racy sledge ride.
The meeting point in front of the Brunni cable car is easy to find and easily accessible by bus or car. From our starting point, you can also see the ropes of the somewhat hidden cable car, but the station is hidden. Don't worry, our guides know the way.
The small four-seater gondola lift has two intermediate stations, but we ride right to the top and end up at the edge of the forest, in the middle of the snowy idyll. Only locals and experts are out and about here.
At the mountain station at just under 1,400 metres above sea level, we strap on our snowshoes and start our tour towards the Brunnihütte. On the way, we are accompanied by the view of the Hahnen, Engelberg's local mountain and the actual "Engel-Berg". First we hike over snowfields to Rigidalalp and then along the panoramic trail to the Brunnihütte at 1,680 metres above sea level.
After about 2.5 hours, 4 kilometres and 170 metres in altitude, we have well and truly earned our lunch break. The team at the Brunnihütte is sure to have something for the hungry. We have enough time to enjoy the terrace.
Rested and refreshed, we no longer need our snowshoes. We grab our sledges and whizz down the fast piste through the forest to Ristis.
Here you can either linger a while and enjoy the surroundings or accompany our guide into the gondola. This will take us back to our starting point.
