In a hit parade of the most frequently performed and most popular classical works, Vivaldi's \"Le quattro stagioni\" would probably be placed high up, at number two or even number one.

Unimaginable: the Venetian Antonio Vivaldi composed almost 500 concerti for a wide variety of solo instruments, 27 of which were for cello and strings. An infinitely rich treasure trove of baroque music - even if others, such as Igor Stravinsky, have mocked it: Vivaldi had written the same concerto 500 times. This cannot be true, as some of these concertos have become popular Baroque hits around the world and have become real earworms. First and foremost, "Le quattro stagioni" - four concertos, each dedicated to one of the four seasons. They come from the collection "Il cimento dellʼarmonia e dellʼinventione", or "The contest between harmony and invention". There is hardly a better way to describe the music. Delightful springtime feelings, oppressive summer heat, autumnal harvest delights and a frozen winter world follow one another in exciting alternation and give us all a wonderfully illustrative insight into the Baroque imaginary world of "musical Mahlerey".
In a hit parade of the most frequently performed and most popular classical works, Vivaldi's "Le quattro stagioni" would probably be placed high up, at number two or even number one.
