Exactly 47 hairpin bends lead up the Grosser Mythen, also known as the "Matterhorn of Central Switzerland". Every year, 30,000 hikers enjoy the breathtaking panorama at 1,898 metres above sea level. The view of the valley basin shows the "Old Land of Schwyz", the cradle of the Swiss Confederation, with Lake Lucerne to the south and Lakes Lauerz and Zug with the Rigi and Rossberg to the west. No wonder the Schwyz landmark is immortalised on the mural in the National Council chamber of the Federal Palace.
