Exhibition
Follow in the footsteps of the canton of Uri and learn about the history of the canton in the History Museum.
The museum is run by the Uri Historical Society. It is just a few minutes' walk from the Tell monument in Altdorf. The main building was built in 1908 by the architect Wilhelm Hanauer from Lucerne. An armoury was added in 1938, which was concealed between 1998 and 2000 and replaced by a new building. At the same time, the old building was restored to preserve it as a historical monument.

The exhibition

The Historisches Museum Uri has a permanent and a temporary exhibition. In the various exhibition rooms of the permanent exhibition, you can follow the cultural life and history of Uri from the first traces of man to life in the Middle Ages and the stagecoach to clothing and housing. A wide variety of objects give you an insight into history: ecclesiastical artefacts, a collection of wooden sculptures, portraits of important historical figures, a replica of a Celtic gold treasure or an Alemannic grave.

Every year, the temporary exhibition gives you new and surprising insights into the canton of Uri.
