Art and culture in beautiful Nidwalden
Today, the Nidwalden Museum consists of three buildings, the salt magazine and the Winkelriedhaus with pavilion in Stans and the Fürigen Fortress in Stansstad.

Winkelriedhaus (opening of new permanent exhibition)

The Winkelriedhaus is now used as a museum for art. In the old patrician house, a permanent exhibition with works from the collection introduces visitors to the art history of the region. The pavilion in the garden shows three temporary exhibitions every year with artists who have a connection to Nidwalden or are otherwise exciting for the region.

Salzmagazin (open from April to October)

Built at the beginning of the 18th century, the Salzmagazin is the museum's original building. Centrally located at the valley station of the Stanserhorn Railway, the permanent exhibition "Courageous, defiant, self-determined. Nidwalden's path to modernity" provides an insight into the historical development of the canton of Nidwalden in six main themes. From April to October, a temporary exhibition on a cultural-historical theme is shown each year.

Festung Fürigen (open from April to October)

The Fürigen Fortress has also been part of the Nidwalden Museum since 1991. A 200-metre-long tunnel system leads into the interior of the Bürgenberg. In addition to two gun emplacements with fortification cannons and three machine guns, visitors can expect a labyrinth with fully equipped dormitories, a kitchen and an infirmary with operating theatre.
