At the entrance to Lake Uri stands a striking 20 metre high boulder close to the shore. Originally known as Mythenstein, it was renamed Schillerstein and inscribed as a monument in 1859 to mark the 100th birthday of Friedrich Schiller, the poet and creator of Switzerland's founding drama "William Tell". The Schiller Stone is located not far from the historic Rütli meadow and is only accessible from the water.
