Shops, small craft businesses, banks, insurance companies, shopping centres, hotels, restaurants and cafés characterise the village centre. Surrounded by agricultural land, Sarnen used to be almost entirely focussed on the needs of this branch of the economy. Over the course of time, however, Sarnen has become more and more commercial and, in recent decades, has also taken on a certain industrial character. Sarnen is a place that has a lot to tell thanks to its eventful history and lively culture.
