How would you like to arrive?
The easiest way to reach the Sonnenberg from mid-April to 1 November is to take the "blue funicular" from Kriens. This funicular railway was built in 1902 to connect Kriens with the then Grand Hotel Sonnenberg. The Sonnenberg railway still runs on the original chassis and rails today.
Or you can board the VBL bus number 10 in Lucerne and travel to the terminus at Obergütsch. From here, you can reach the mountain station on foot in 20 to 30 minutes.
You have an impressive panoramic view from the viewing terrace at the mountain station and from many other places. You can see the mountains of Central Switzerland with Pilatus, Stanserhorn, Bürgenstock and Rigi as well as Lucerne and Lake Lucerne.
On the Sonnenberg
- Children's playground
- "Zwergenweg", a circular trail that shows the station of the children's book "Der Sonnenzwerg und s blaue Bähnli". It takes a good 60 minutes and is not suitable for pushchairs.
- Walking trails
- Vitaparcours Sonnenberg
- Two Helsana Nordic walking trails starting at the Gabeldingen school
- Six official barbecue sites (you can buy wood at the mountain station)
- Restaurant Schwyzerhüsli and Restaurant Sonnenberg
- Gabeldingen and Eggenhof farm shops
