- 500 plant species grow here. These include many rare and protected specimens such as the Siberian iris.

Lorelei bathing islands
"Lorelei" - this is the name given to the three bathing islands in the middle of the nature reserve. And indeed, the artificial islands in Lake Lucerne have been attracting more and more nature lovers and bathing enthusiasts since their opening in 2005.The bathing islands, together with three nature conservation islands (Neptune Islands), were heaped up close to the shore using excavated material from the world's longest railway tunnel, the Gotthard Base Tunnel.
With fine sand over the coarse tunnel gravel and large blocks of stone, the three bathing islands of different sizes invite you to linger and play. They can only be reached by swimming from the shore. The reward for the short swim is all the greater: pure bathing fun and relaxation!
"Mississippi"
But the pebble and stone beach at the edge of the path should not be overlooked either: A jetty with a circular viewing platform leads a little way into the lake. Who wouldn't want to jump into the refreshing Lake Lucerne from there?
Sanitary facilities such as a toilet block and outdoor shower are available.
An 11-metre-high wooden observation tower is waiting to be visited and climbed. Marvel at the view over the Reuss delta in Uri, the Lorelei bathing islands and the surrounding mountains from one of the four windows at a height of 7 metres.
A large children's playground with various fire pits by the "Mississippi" invites friends and families, hikers and travellers passing through to take a break. School groups on a hike also like to rest here. Some locals also hop on their bikes and ride to the "Mississippi" to relax after a hard day at work or school.
