The forest nature trail in the Auenwald is to be used as a place of silence, as a recreational space for people and as an educational trail for young and old.

The best place to start is at the railway station along the Steiner Aa and then turn into the Aazopfweg until you reach the entrance to the Auenwald. During the walk, you will be accompanied again and again by informative information boards. In the Auenwald forest there is a barbecue area, the "Aazopf Grillstelle", with a great view of Lake Lauerz and an inviting place to take a short break. Afterwards, simply follow the path until you reach the Aazopfweg again.

To the Au trail

In the past, the area of the Au was repeatedly flooded by the Steiner-Aa. The original course can still be seen in the floodplain forest. Today, the estuary with its transformation zone is a protected river floodplain. Therefore, its biological diversity is also great. You can discover over 1500 different plant species and 40 different woody plants.

Directions & Parking facilities

From Goldau, drive in the direction of Steinen (Goldauerstrasse) and from Schwyz on Schwyzerstrasse in the direction of Steinen. Pass the village square in the direction of Steinen railway station.

At Steinen station there is a car park where you can park for a fee.

Arrival by train or bus from Arth Goldau or Schwyz to Steinen train station.
