You start by skirting Lake Uri northwards on the imposing Axen road. You arrive at the village of Sisikon having cycled through ancient tunnels and past steep cliff faces on this historic road. Here you turn off into the idyllic Riemendstalden valley where you climb to Goldplangg. With its golden display of flowers, the nature conservation area on either side of the watershed is particularly charming in the spring. You might like a well-earned rest at the cosy Liplisbüel alp restaurant. The next leg of the tour takes you through picturesque alps in the Chinz valley populated with cows, sheep and noisy marmots. Over 200 years ago the Russian General Suvorov tackled the arduous Chinzig Pass with more than 20,000 men in a bid to escape the French army. You now start the attractive descent from 2073 m to 447 m: the first section to Gisleralp is very demanding, with only the most technically experienced riders remaining in the saddle all the way. This is followed by ups and downs on a broad unpaved road, which ends with an attractive descent via the Eggberge and the Altdorf forest.
