The second stage of the Gotthard Crystal Trek begins on the Gotthard Pass. First, the route runs parallel to the road to the Sella reservoir. From there, the trail leads steeply uphill, first on an old military road and then on a narrow, little-used hiking trail. After two hours, you reach a lonely pass overlooked by the Gloggentürmli towers. The path continues downhill before the next pass is in sight. Most of the stage runs along a blue and white alpine hiking trail, which requires attention in places. Shortly before crossing the pass, you reach the "Im Vorderen Loch" plateau, where three small mountain lakes at over 2,600 meters beckon. The route then continues uphill to the "Gfallenenlücke", with views of the Gemsstock station and the highest point of the Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis ski area. The descent leads to the Vermigelhütte at 2,000 meters, the day's destination.
