- Start: Willisau station
- Destination: Willisau station
From Willisau station, you pedal westwards to the Hotel Mohren and follow the sign for Menzberg. The road now climbs slightly along the Buchwigger up to the junction to Rohrmatt. Here begins the ascent to Menzberg. Passing through the hamlet of Schülen, and following a hefty gradient in the Chabisstutz, you come to the main Menznau - Menzberg road. You continue upwards until you reach Menzberg village. You may well want to have a rest here and admire the views. There follows a fast descent to Menznau, where you cross the cantonal road and take a left after the railway level crossing; heading for Geiss, you come to the junction for Rötelberg. You now follow the main road; after a short downhill, the Ostergau pond landscape comes into view on your right – time for a photo, maybe? The remaining leg of the ride should take no more than ten minutes.

Author’s tip
- Menzberg: Offering unique views of the sweeping Swiss Central Plateau and striking alpine peaks, Menzberg lies at the end of a typical offshoot of the Napf. The village is very popular with day-trippers.
- Ostergau: the Ostergaus pond landscape is a natural protected area of national importance.
- Willisau: with its historical sights, the little medieval town of Willisau merits more than a cursory visit. With its seven-sided fountains, two town gates and welcoming restaurants, the old part of town exudes a particular atmosphere.
