From cultivated land to St. Apollonia:
From the centre of Ibach, you quickly reach the southern edge of the settlement. The first of four chapels along the circular route stands between the residential houses. The earliest alder chapel was built in 1485 in the village centre. At the edge of the settlement, the flowering allotment gardens adorn the path and open up a wide view of the surrounding cultivated landscape. The circular trail leads past two benches that invite you to linger. At the edge of the fields, three Swiss Farmers' Union markers provide an insight into the diversity of agriculture. Along meadows and pastures, the trail continues on a narrow path to Unterschönenbuch. Orchards adorn the surrounding historic farmhouses. Before the first ascent, the circular trail passes the Toothache Chapel. It got its name from the patron saint against toothache, St. Apollonia. Prayers at this place are said to relieve toothache. The chapel was built in the 17th century on the old path to Unterschönenbuch.
Ascent to Unterschönenbuch:
After this chapel, there is a short climb to Unterschönenbuch, a hamlet with 150 inhabitants. The houses of the hamlet are loosely formed around the magnificent St. Wendelin Chapel. This sacred building was completed at the beginning of the early 18th century and is named after the patron saint of farmers. Continue along the road to Oberschönenbuch. With a bit of luck, sunbathing wall lizards can be observed. If you want to follow their example, you will find another bench at the side of the road. The metres in altitude gained allow you to enjoy a magnificent view of the Muota plain in the direction of Urmiberg. Another gentle ascent follows on the Unterschönenbuchstrasse with a direct view of the Mythen. Colourful meadows and pastures with scattered hedges and fruit trees as well as rustic farmhouses characterise the landscape chamber.
Through the Kraftort back to the centre:
On the descent to Ibach, the wayside chapel Maria zum guten Rat stands on the left side of the road. The location of the chapel is known as a place of power. It is worthwhile to linger for a moment in the chapel. If you like, you can record your thoughts in the chapel's guest book. After this moment of recharging your batteries, you walk on towards the Muota. The murmur of the river becomes increasingly clear, while the Hintere Muota bridge, built in 2008, can be seen from afar. Downstream, you return to the centre of Ibach.
