As early as 2003, the Herzroute ventured on this traverse between Willisau in Lucerne and the Emmental. The stage has since acquired cult character and is considered worryingly addictive. It takes the traveler on winding paths through a landscape that is hardly known. From Willisau, you enter the «Oberaargau» via Zell in Lucerne, an atmospheric part of the canton of Berne that increasingly turns into Emmental. The hills become higher, the ridges more impressive, the farmhouses more typically. At Affoltern at the latest, the route builds up to a scenic crescendo that can hardly be topped. Far-reaching views of the Alps and the Jura frame the cascade of hills that spread out before us. Via the Gotthelf village of Lützelflüh, you follow the Emme riverbank path to Burgdorf, whose proud castle towers over the valley and welcomes you.
