Small town hopping

Discover the small town gem Altdorf

The quaint little town of Altdorf is shrouded in legends and myths. Between high mountains on the wild Reuss, Switzerland was once originated here.

The Swiss national hero William Tell is still present today, overlooking Altdorf's town hall square from his pedestal. The Tell Museum traces the legend of the freedom fighter and brings it to life with historical artefacts. The architecture, with its manor houses and palazzi, squares and alleyways, is reminiscent of the south and has already been honoured with the Wakker Prize for the Protection of Local Heritage. The nearby Kulturkloster Altdorf, a former Capuchin monastery, is a place of powerful tranquillity and certainly worth a detour.
